The university is now made up of five different academic schools: Cardiff School of Art Design, Cardiff School of Education, Cardiff School of Health Science, Cardiff School of Management and Cardiff School of Sport.

Background and History

Cardiff Metropolitan University celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015. The University first came into existence in 1865 when the first Cardiff School of Art was founded. Since then, the university has expanded and now operates across two campuses and is home to over 17,000 students, studying from a choice of a 100 different courses.

Location and Accessibility

Cardiff Metropolitan University is split into two different campuses: Llandaff Campus and Cyncoed Campus.

Llandaff Campus: Home to the schools of Health Sciences, Management and Art and Design, Llandaff campus is a 20 minute walk from Waun-Gron railway station, which is on the City Line.

The Campus can also be reached during term time by the U1, U2 and U3/U4 MetRider buses which travel hourly to the campus from Cyncoed campus, Roath, Cathays and Cardiff city centre.

Cyncoed Campus: Home to the School of Education and the School of Sport, Cyncoed campus is a 25 minute walk away from Heath High Level and Heath Low Level railway stations on the Rhymney and Coryton lines.

The Campus can also be reached by bus - the 52/52A travels from the city centre every 15 minutes, while during term time the U1 MetRider bus travels between the two campuses every hour.

What's on in the Area

One of Europe's youngest capital cities, Cardiff is a bustling, metropolitan city, yet it is still small enough to navigate easily. Described by Lonely Planet as the 'epitome of cool', it has a vibrant student culture, with many places to eat, drink and socialise in Cardiff Bay. The Millennium Stadium, the home of Welsh Rugby is also a popular destination for sport and music fans alike.

Moving On

Cardiff Met has excellent employability statistics, with a 2013 survey stating that 94% of graduates entered employment or further study within six months of graduating from the university. Graduates are also entitled to use the university's Career Development Service up to three years after graduation.

Did you know?

Over 30 current and former students and staff of the university competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games, including Helen Glover who won two Gold medals for pairs rowing and Aled Davies who won Gold for throwing the discuss.

The University has also taught 7 Captains of the Welsh rugby team and 15 members of the British Lions team.

Is Cardiff Metropolitan University the place for you?

With increasingly excellent academic standards, Cardiff Met is a great choice if you wish to study in a modern city with a youthful atmosphere. It is also a great choice if you are interested in studying a sport related subject. For students who would prefer to study in a larger city, why not try one of London's Art Schools or Loughborough if you are interested in sport?
